OFFICIAL OPEN DAY

 

  

The eagerly awaited opening of The Bletchley Leisure Centre, a multi million pound state of the art leisure centre was officially opened by Cllr. Euan Henderson, Mayor of Milton Keynes on Saturday 9th January.  The day was filled with a programme of activities for everyone to enjoy.

 

Leisure centre owners, Milton Keynes Council, have invested £21 million in a complete upgrade to the existing site. As well as a complete technical overhaul, the refit has provided improved facilities, new state of the art equipment and high quality finishes.

 

The new look Milton Keynes Council facility opens its doors for a special event and despite the poor weather conditions and the travel disruptions, more than 300 visitors turned up to the open day and got a chance to look around the centre and take part in lots of taster sessions of classes and activities.

 

Some of the events and activities included:

 

    • Coaching sessions with the MK Dons and MK Lions
    • Korfball demo match
    • Bowls matches - London & Southern Counties competition, MK Moles & BIBC
    • Fenny Stompers playing in reception – are a well established band having formed in 1978. The vocal and instrumental melodies welcomed our guests as they entered the centre.
    • Elite squash players Jason Dodd, Guillermo Pedernera and Alison Waters At the start of this 2009 she reached the ranking of 6 and is now at 5 - her highest world ranking so far
    • Other activities included face painting, cheerleading, Shotokan Karate demo class, fitness studio with classes running every hour on the hour. There were also stalls of local clubs promoting themselves in the reception area.

 

We also held various competitions through out the day. One of which was sponsored by Perrys Motor Sales Ltd.

Overall the day was a great success and local support from the community was clearly evident.
