Aspiring Athlete Scheme

Robert Poth

Robert Poth is a member of the British Alpine Ski Team. He is also a current participant of our 'Aspiring Athlete Scheme', using Beaumonts Gym at Furzefield to train for the forthcoming season.

Robert Poth began his first ski lessons at the age of three and progressed swiftly through the various ski racing groups which eventually led him to take part in his first ski race at the tender age of four.

In 2009, due to Robert’s numerous ski racing successes early on, he was selected to the Great Britain Children’s ski race team where he continued to dominate his age group during the last four years as a member of the team proving his natural talent as an alpine ski racer.

Robert achieved phenomenal success as a child racer, the main highlight being his international win in January 2013 at the FIS ‘Ski Interkriterium’ Slalom in the Czech Republic which created British ski racing history, as he was the first Brit to do so in over 20 years. He also had a podium position in the Giant Slalom the following day with an equally impressive silver medal in a strong international field. Robert’s results in the Czech Republic were mentioned by Graham Bell on the TV programme Ski Sunday. Robert is proud to have completed his children’s ski racing years with multiple top results and his name engraved on every single alpine trophy.

This year, Robert progresses on his ski racing pathway to first year FIS ski racing, He will be combining his A-Level education with ski training/racing on the Aktiv Ski Racing Academy programme coached by Richard Breese.

We welcome Robert to the Centre, and are proud to provide assistance and free access to the leisure facilities of our centre, to assist such athletes to achieve their full potential and work towards world class performance levels.
