Swimming returns to William Penn!

Our newly refurbished pools provide our customers with both a 25 metre, 4 lane main pool as well as a fantastic 12 metre teaching pool complemented by fully accessible changing facilities including disabled, family and group changing rooms.

Swimming isn't only a great form of general exercise, it can also be soothing, relaxing and best of all great fun!

Swimming is an excellent way to tone up and trim down. Just swimming a few lengths can involve most of the major muscle groups, giving your body a great work out.

The other big advantage of swimming is that water supports your weight and takes the stress off your joints, so you can put your body through a good work out without your knees, hips or spine paying the price.

The comprehensive new pool programme is designed to cater for everyone and includes early morning, lunchtime and evening lane swimming, casual sessions and Aqua Aerobic classes. Take a look at out pool programme here: WP Pool timetableHOLIDAY.pdf

The future of free swimming in Three Rivers

Three Rivers District Council currently offers free swimming to everyone under 19 years old or over 60, at William Penn Leisure Centre in Rickmansworth, and at Sir James Altham Pool in South Oxhey.  This free provision has been largely subsidised by central Government funding, and the Government has recently announced that this support will cease from 31 July 2010.

Three Rivers District Council is currently reviewing the future of this provision, and an announcement should be made shortly. Meanwhile a commitment has made to continue to provide free swimming for under 19s and over 60s at least until the end of the current Summer holiday, i.e. to Friday 3 September 2010.

Further information on free swimming in Three Rivers, including free registration procedures and swimming times is available by contacting participating venues:
